Why and what is error message relating to

it started turning white during use and the disc drive has been unpredictable, I ran a hardware test on it and it is displaying error code: 4SNS/1/40000001:VDOR

The important part is the '4SNS', which would indicate a problem with a sensor on the logic board. You can try a system management management reset, and run the test again. Here's how from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

If you still get the 4SNS failure, then the logic board will be the culprit.
