After a bit of searching I found that you probably can upgrade your logic board to a 2.4 GHz logic board without having to swap many, if any, parts. It looks like all the parts that are compatible with the 2.4 GHz Penryn logic board are the same parts you have in your MacBook Santa Rosa.

Update

We don't have an extra Penryn logic board laying around that I can throw into our test computer, but I did look at the parts compatibility list between the Santa Rosa and the Penryn, and all these parts are cross compatible:

  • Display Assembly
  • RAM
  • Upper Case
  • Hard Drive Cable
  • Optical Drive Cable
  • Airport Card
  • Lower Case
  • Fan
  • Battery Connector/Sleep Sensor
  • Heat Sink
  • MagSafe Board
  • Bluetooth
  • Left Speaker
  • PRAM Battery
  • Right Speaker

So the logic board should be swappable without any compatibility trouble. Please check my list to make sure I didn't miss anything.

To my knowledge the Penryn and Santa Rosa boards are not interchangeble. They have different connectors on the logicboard, the fan and bottom case are different also. Anyway the difference in speed between a 2.2GHz and a 2.4GHz machine is hardly notacible. I'd stick with the 2.2 or sell it and buy a really faster machine, like one of the new MacBook Pro line.

You may be right remacberlin, but as far as I know all the connectors for the fan, uppercase, hard drive...etc are the same on the Penryn and Santa Rosa. Also, I think the lower case is the same. I will do some swapping parts with our testing computer to see what I can find out.
