tried to fix lcd/digitizer now no backlight

After reassembling my iphone 3gs I thought the screen was broken at first, but after taking a second look at it I realized the backlight was out. I did some research and found that joining two points on the mother board will fix the problem. I just want to double check and make sure this is the case.

Answer this question I have this problem too

If the iPhone wasn't like that already before you replaced the LCD assembly, it could be one of two things: either the store you bought it from sent you a faulty LCD (it could've been handled roughly in shipping, too) or the first cable isn't connected firmly. However, it's probably the former, if the LCD wasn't connected right, it would show nothing but a white screen. Take out the cables and try to reconnect them and see if that helps. If not, I would request a replacement.

I took the screen off and put it back together but the same thing happened. I read somewhere that it is because a "coil" on the motherboard is burnt out. Could this be the case?
