July 2010 27" iMac has 2 or 3 internal SATA connectors?
Does the July 2010 27" iMac have two or three internal SATA connectors?
I'm wondering because it can be purchased with three internal SATA devices: a 3.5" HD, a SSD, and an 8x SuperDrive.
What about the Late 2009 27" iMac? Is there an unused SATA port in there?

Although quite widely stated, as I know from my own searches for information on the subject, the above answer is quite wrong. The July 2010 27-inch models have three inboard SATA connectors (though not the 21.5-inch models). The third port is difficult to reach, but by no means impossible if you're handy with suction cups and a torx driver. If you don't have the 2010 27-inch iMac built to order with an SSD from Apple, you'll be missing some necessary cabling and a mounting bracket, but there are ways around that. I'd suggest checking out the following.

I upgraded my own 2010 27-inch with a third-party 2.5-inch SSD using the second site as a guide for parts and procedures.
The 2009 27-inch iMacs do NOT have the third SATA port with which the 2010 models are appointed.
Hope that helps!

OK, just realized this after tearing my 2009 27" iMac apart.
So much for being way over psyched to get my iMac an SSD drive...
Thought the connections for the port are there... Just no port soldered.
Any idea wether they are live and let's say I can manage to install the port - would it work?
