Screen went black, Apple Icon off

History

Why did my screen go black? I can see the screen when the computer is placed in direct light.The Laptop still works fine

Either your inverter board or the LCD backlight has failed. Guide to replace the screen is here. You should be able to locate a reasonably priced screen assembly, since a lot of those machines have dead logic boards. I recommend checking eBay.

Thank you so much bro! I had a feeling is was one of the two you mentioned. Do u know how difficult it is to replace? either one... I am mechanically inclined.

The iBook range is not really easy to repair. If you're not feeling up to it, it's better to take it to a professional or find a skilled mate.
