By volume button I believe you'd be referring to the headphone jack assembly, that's all one piece, follow this guide to install it.

iPhone 3G and 3GS Volume Button

I'm missing this part. From the picture, I wouldn't see why you would need to open the phone up because it looks like it just sticks on. To install just this part, would I need to open the phone?
