Why does the screen go dark?

History

Screen goes dark. Still get volume and if I open and close the laptop rapidly I can get a faint image for a few seconds.

Sounds like the backlight is faulty.

Does it run hot? Is the fan running then then it shuts down? HP notebook infamous for over heating issues. Check out buying a chill Mat Staples.com has a good one Targus that normally goes for $34 est now priced around $17
