My GPS is broken, will a antenna replace help?

History

Hi,

My 3g have lost GPS since a few weeks back and i cannot get it to work. Just upgraded to 4.0 and even that did not help.

I took the phone apart yesterday and cleaned the whole interior of the phone, an reseated all connectors and cleaned them with 99% alcohol, same problem.

My question is, if i replace the GPS antenna on the phone, is that likely to fix the problem or is the problem most likely something else?

Thanks in advance

/Marcus

hard to tell if replacing the antenna would fix the problem

but maybe you can try something different.

i did a search about this topic and found something on macrumors you might want to try:

  1. Go to settings, general, auto-lock, change it from 1 Minute to NEVER
  2. Go to settings, general, reset, reset network settings (THIS WILL REBOOT YOUR IPHONE)
  3. Go outside, in a clear place with NO tree's, buildings, or anything blocking your view of the sky
  4. Open "MAPS", click NO on all that wi-fi crap, then click the little gps icon, and let it sync up with the satellites (this could take a few minutes).

Hi, Thanks for the quick response. I'm getting an accurate position in MAPS but i think thats because it's using triangulation on the GSM network? Can i try this with WIFI enabled to that maps is still working but is unable to triangulate using GSM?

Marcus Steve,

I have now tried this for almost 30 minutes and the the circle is just spinning and I'm not getting a position.

Marcus Steve,

the iphone is designed to use assisted gps. as long as you use a sim card you should always use a-gps. but there should be a trick - remove your sim card and power on the phone, power on the gps and you should receive a signal without the triangulation. motion-x should "show" you the satellites.
