since you wrote that you've got it brand new on christmas 09 - it has to be a 5th generation nano - this one has a camera.

you also wrote that the screen is cracked and splintered and you "taped" it - so the lcd is ok and only the glass panel is broken - right ??

you can order the glass panel replacement part for the 5th generation on ebay - this search should give you a good amount of results: CLICK

if your iPod has no camera - but looks like the one on the picture above - it's a 4th generation nano - in that case you can order the part from ifixit: CLICK

the installation instructions for the 4g or 5g are pretty similar.

here is the 4g: CLICK and here is the 5g teardown: CLICK.

since the teardowns are not as good as the repair guides - but you can use it to compare the two specific models - the needed tools are listed in the 4g glass panel guide

You don't state exactly which model you have so I cant direct you to the appropriate parts. But just go to the top of this page and click on the parts icon and enter your iPod's information and all the relevant parts will show up there. I'm pretty sure iFixit has the part you need available along with the necessary step by step guides. If you provide a little more info I would be more than happy to provide you with the links.

You could replace the screen. But in order to give any specific tips we would need to know what kind of iPod you dropped.

I dropped mine too. Its a 5g Ipod Nano and the outside mirror is broken i think as i can see that the inside is pretty good can anyone help me to fix it. I dont want to go to the Apple store and pay a lot to just fix it. My warranty just expired.
