iFixit iPod opening tools destroyed before job is done

The iPod opening tools included with a battery replacement are junk! The iPod case is tougher than the tools. Now I have two tools with their ends destroyed and the job partially finished.

Can anyone suggest an alternative that I might have lying around to finish the job?

I might suggest metal tools with longer handles in the future. I'd gladly pay for them if necessary.

Answer this question I have this problem too

The iPod opening tools are intentionally made out of soft plastic so that they don't scratch your iPod. They *have* to be softer than the iPod, or they would scratch the case.

They do work, but you have to be careful when using them. You'll run into a stubborn iPod sometimes that really chews up the plastic tools, which I'd guess is what you have. We do sell metal spudgers, but I don't know if I'd recommend them for this application.

For more information, see this post discussing alternative iPod opening tools.
