iPod Touch keeps asking to turn off ("slide to power off")

So my iPod Touch 2nd gen keeps asking to "slide to power off" randomly when I hit the top on/off button. I've disassembled the iPod a bit, and it's definitely not the main button on the iPod, and i don't know if maybe replacing the top button would help?

Has anybody else experienced a problem similar to this? Thanks!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I have the same problem. Instead of it just trying to power down it also puts it in standby mode. I have replaced the power button and assembly, which runs from the power and volume button to the motherboard. It keeps doing the same thing. Any help would be really appreciated.

I have a few iPod touch and the sleep button is sometimes totally worn out.

i would disassemble the iPod and check the sleep button - maybe you can fix it without replacing it

How would i fix it without replacing the button? I've just replaced the button in the past for problems with it, but it's a pain to take it all apart.

it is not that much work, removing the screws isn't that much work. check the contacts of the "buttons" - sometimes - they have a slight fluid damage and thats why they won't work normally, others are worn out - but you will see the problem - once you have the ribbon cable in your hand.

It happened to me, and I cleaned the power button from the inside. There was just dust and sand between the power button and the casing.

i never thought that there could be so much dust inside the ipod touch/iphone. but - i sometimes wondered what lifeforms could be inside them, maybe i should get a microscope for that ;-)

There is something stuck between the button and the sensor, causing it to stay pressed. You can try blowing some compressed air around the button and pressing it over and over if you don't want to take it apart tot clean it.

Hi

My ipod touch does the same and keeps asking me to power off. However, when I keep the ear phones in it works fine. It never asks me to "Slide to power off"

Now ... does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Thank You

Same things happens to me. My ipod touch3 has water damage, and not only does it power off (slide to power off) by itself, but it also turns up the volume all the time. I installed a new volume and power button, to no avail. The only thing that works is keeping the headphones in....but I can't push them in the whole way (other wise only the background sound will play for movies...no vocals:) weird)
