Brand-new optical drive won't load disc

History

My optical drive was not working properly, so I bought a brand new one and followed the guide here to install it.

Put it back together, now it won't load discs (discs never even go all the way in before the eject mechanism starts popping them out again).

I also got a replacement optical drive cable in case the first one was bad, and took it apart again and put it all back together again.

Also zapped the PRAM per one answer here.

Still no go.

Any ideas?

Not sure what to make of this since I bought the replacement from iFixIt...

Everybody makes mistakes, you, me, iFixit. Just one question, is the new drive doing the same thing the old was?

mayer,

No, the first drive loaded and read discs, but was no longer able to write them. The new drive simply does not load discs at all. I gave up and got an external drive which was 1/2 the cost of the internal one.
