it's hard to tell whats wrong, but a battery should never get "hot".
i would highly recommend that you remove that battery from your iPod!
overheated batteries can not only destroy your device - a burning/exploding battery can cost life.
i would contact the seller and try to get a replacement battery - the one you got is definatly not ok

I have the same problem with my Ipod.The apple guy told me all after market battery has heating issues.

does the iPod show the charging process ??

It flashes between the very low battery and the "apple" and "iPod frown, exclamation mark" screens.I plugged it into a wall unit and the same thing happened and the iPod got hot.

It gets hot in the back by the plug-in.
