ifixit gave me wrong superdrive replacement
I bought two UJ-875 drives part# IF153-092-1
12.7mm PATA 8X SuperDrive / New for 89.95 each.
The drive is supposed to install in a black bracket. The bracket on my imac has two little plastic pins as part of the bracket.
These pins help position the drive properly.
They fit the original drive but not the replacement drive I received from ifixit.
The new drive will not align properly with the bracket slot...filing off the pins will not work...drilling holes in the drive shell is not possible either.
Any suggestions?
Mike
PS. I am about the return the drives.

Well, I bought a replacement optical drive from another, well-respected Mac vendor, for a 14" iBook. The little tabs didn't line up. So I returned the drive and got a replacement. Same thing. I was told by tech support that this often happens and to just break off the little tabs (there were enough other connections on the drive to hold it in place.) It's been fine ever since.
Sorry you're having trouble with these drives. What's the model of the SuperDrive that was originally installed in this iMac?
Luke Soules,
In general, support queries are better sent directly to our support team (who is happy to handle RMA requests and is quite technically competent). In this case, I'm leaving the question open because the information about the bracket seems like it would be useful to other people doing the same repair.
