Phone won't charge unless charger is pulled in a certain angle.

History

Charger works fine, phone works fine, but the connections are apparently bad on the phone (my wife has same phone that charges fine with that charger).

If I plug in the charger and put something heavy on it, the phone will charge. Is there a way to replace the port where the charger plugs in? How hard would it be to do this?

Sounds like either the cable/connector on the charger is faulty or the connector/socket on the phone is damaged

Try a different charger and see if it works OK.

Replacing the connector on the phone while possible is likely, you'd probably need to pull the main board out to do this. Getting a suitable replacement may not be easy either!

Thanks for the reply. The charger works fine on my wife's phone, so it is the socket on my phone. I guess I'll probably just replace the whole phone.

Whoa, somebody dug this old question up. Richdave's answer is pretty much spot on. The DC port is soldered onto the logic board. Replacements are available at places like this.. Take a look at this teardown for more information on how to get to the part.
