While working, my macbook made a popping noise, like a gunshot. Now it only beeps like a truck backing up when I start it up. The rest of functionality is completely frozen. What do I do if it is just past warranty?

Jessi Reel, the popping noise needs to be investigated properly. You will have to disassemble your MacBook, use these guides MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Early 2011 and take a good luck at the components. Check for any charred, missing or burned components. Also check your battery and make sure it is in good condition. Once you have done that, let us know what you found.

Popping noise sounds like the battery exploded. Open the bottom cover and remove it to see if it bulges. The macbook should still boot without the battery, so you can test it.
