My A button is having a hard time responding. Why?

I don't wanna go deep into my 3ds because I'm afraid I'll make it worse. I'm also trying to save up for a 3ds xl and a bunch of other stuff. Is there a way to fix the A button without going deep into it or not spending money? If you can answer then thanks!
