camera won't turn on

Camera stopped all functions; won't even turn on. Tried new battery but still won't function. I was wondering if it could be the on/off switch or something simple/inexpensive to fix. Rather than throw it, I was thinking about taking it apart to clean whatever I find inside. It's 2 years old and hasn't had much use.
