Briggs and Stratton Engine will not go past compression stroke?

Will not go past compression stroke while hooked to 3 batteries. Started twice after sanding rust off flywheel and coil. Like a dead battery.what next?

Are we talking about a Briggs and Stratton? Why are you using 3 batteries? what are you trying to accomplish?

Yes it is a B&S. 1 battery won't start it so I tried 2 more for additional C.A. Object is to spin it over to start.

Can you turn the crank by hand when you remove the spark plug?
