Cycle stops at pause/cool down; will not rinse or spin

The cycle stopped at the rinse mode, and wouldn't drain the water nor continue to the spin cycle. We pulled the drain tube so it could drain into a cooler, and we determined that there wasn't any pressure to pull the water up to the drain hole. We tried advancing the timer further into that cycle, and it wouldn't resume. The only functions we could get it to do was refill and wash; we could never get it to drain, rinse, or spin. Eventually had to pull the clothes out, wring them out, and throw in the dryer sopping wet.
