i have tried other cameras and they are black too.

i have tried all resets ,restores and updates and even another sim card/headphone board.

im all out of ideas

Verify the cable connection for your front camera and ensure it wasn't damaged or simply a loose cable from re-assembly.

I'm wondering then if you've possibly damaged the motherboard for the camera? Did you notice anything weird that may have happened as you were repairing the device?

by

mmm, im fairly sure i didnt as i was pretty careful with it all. I could try with another motherboard.

Only thing i can think of, is that in the guide on this site referring to the sim reader, it says to unstick and remove the flex cable from the case before you unclip it from the connector on the motherboard.. I done this the other way round.

Have you heard of static ever breaking any components in the ipads? ive been working with laptops for years now and have never had a problem with static.

Ive ordered a new sim card/headphone board and camera. so ill report back after ive tried that.

Sounds good, static will always be an age old enemy of the electronics world, with newer technology it is becoming more rare for a device to be affected by static, but nevertheless, can always be a possibility, a static wrist strap guard is always a safe bet or even purchasing a static mat with an adapter to attach a static guard strap, which conveniently enough this site sells both if you haven't seen.

Im pretty sure ive found the problem.. I got a new front camera and sim card board and the problem was still there.. So through elimination it has to be the connector on the logic/motherboard.. and after closely inspecting it it does look like there is some damage to the pins on the connector. I dont suppose you know any guides or info on repairing a connector on the board, or it might be best to give up on getting it working again.
