Get an external. I like the LaCie Firewire/USB units. They are sturdy and move to all different kinds of machines. I like this one with LightScribe to etch disk labels: http://www.lacie.com/support/support_man...

I don't have anymore USB ports left on my Imac so should I get some sort of hub?

Think about how often you use an optical drive. The world has gone to downloadable software and system ware.

Yes, I know. However, I use it a lot in ripping and burning movies and cd's to play on my big screen tv and playlists from Itunes to play in my car. MacMedia here in Phoenix will replace the drive for approx. $250...think that's the route I'm going to go. http://www.macmediainc.com/mm-site/

Thanks a lot for the info, though.

I think the external might be the answer. Will the Lacie work with a hub?
