Volume down button not working after replacement

I just bought a couple of the iPhone 5 audio control cables because my sleep/wake button wasn't working. I changed out the first audio control cable and the sleep/wake button was working fine, but the volume down button wasn't working at all anymore.

So I used another audio control cable and replaced it again..

The volume - still doesn't work. Am I missing something here? Did I chip something off of the logic board? Has anyone else had this problem? I don't think it's a software issue because I was running 7.0.4 and upgraded to 7.1 and still has the same problem.

Can anyone advise? 2 faulty parts?

Thanks for your answer. I've done a lot of 4 and 4S but didn't think to try using an extender cable with just testing the flex. I'll give that a shot.

Hi there is the button clicking ok?

It's very funny that 2 new flex cables would have the same issue..

Can you try the old flex ?

I would try just tilting the screen up unclipping the flex and clipping in new 1 this way it saves you taking the phone apart.

I have a pic showing how I done it u use the screen extender cables tho
