Upgrade LaCie Blade Runner external HD to an SSD?

I bought a LaCie Blade Runner 4TB HD. I don't have a need for the storage and would like to replace the HD with a 1TB Samsung EVO SSD and give the HD to my son. Is there anything in the hardware/ firmware that would make this a problem. I recently managed to put SSD's in 2 older iMacs. There is no fan in the LaCie now - so that shouldn't be a problem. (I realize that it may invalidate my warranty but I would prefer a small, quiet unit. I found a teardown online but it was just to display what was inside:

I tried swapping out the standard hdd with an ssd and have had no luck so far. I really like the design of this case, but the sound of the drive spinning up is annoying. I’ve tried 2 different SSD drives in this case and my Computer is not seeing anything. Major disappointment!

I think you'll find buying the correct case for your SSD would be better than trying to fit the 2.5" SSD into the 3.5" frame the 4TB drive current is mounted to. As well as the size the case and the large power supply it has is just not needed here.

I would leave the 4TB unit alone and use it as a media server for your house.

Thanks for the good advice, I do some grid computing and don't really need a lot of storage. But, I recently cut the cable TV cord and could probably use the storage over time.
