Been using my macbook pro mid 2012 for almost two years. It was a gift. Woke up one morning to find sytem pin lock on screen and I don't recall putting any pin lock. How do I remove this. Thanks

Are you sure no one had access to your system physically. If that is the case then your system was locked remotely via the internet.
I would go to your friend who gifted you this MBP and find out how they got it and if they have the receipt from the store/person it was bought from. With that in hand and with your friend you will need to visit an Apple Store to get the lock cleared.
