Are the microphones top & bottom the same on the Galaxy S3?

My bottom microphone next to the USB connection has stopped working.

I read “oldturkey03” response to a question involving a microphone problem where he added a photo pointing out the locations and numbers associated with each, so am I to assume that these microphones are different?

Whenever I look up the microphone, on Ebay for instance, it doesn’t specify whether it is for the top or the bottom of the phone, and doesn’t include a number signifying which microphone it is.

My phone is actually a gt-i9300 and the main pcb board looks the same as the S3, so does anyone know if the microphones interchange?

FYI, if you purchase a UK manufactured Samsung out of country they will not honor the awesome 2 year warrantee. The only reason I bought the international model was because it was more powerful and assumedly had a useable 2 year warrantee.

oldturkey03, thank you so much! So am I undertanding correctly that the gt-i9300 shares the same mics as the US S3?

I've seen them all over Ebay, but do you suggest any particular repitable place I should go?

I would get it from the closest geographical place. Just as always, communicate with the vendor to ensure quality, compatibility and return policy if needed. You will find that most sellers use the same manufacturer, especially on ebay.

This is not an answer but a follow up: what do the two microphones do differently? Which one is in charge of what? I.E. Hands free talk, telephone talk, etc?

Dennis, the bottom one, I am having problems with, controls the telephone talk as well as hands free and the top one acts as just the video mic, unless it controls something else that I am not aware of.

When you say "Video mic", do you think that would include the voice recorder? On the motherboard I'm working on no sound input works: not call voice, speaker phone, google voice search feature, or sound recorder. I did not try Video sound, but I'm hoping it's the same microphone as the sound recorder... if it isn't I'll be sending this off to Samsung for no great reason.

bassmasterbee, BLM15AG121SN1D is the description for both microphones. The sec code for Samsung is 3003-001136. Both Mics are identical. Remember that Samsung description numbers are different. A search by the "BLM15AG121SN1D" will not find the mics but the sec code does.:-) Hope this helps, good luck.

oldturkey03, it didn't end up being the microphone, after the new tech looked at the previous replacement. =/

Since GSM PCB rework is apparently nonexistent, he suggested I try to find an International GT-i9300 with a broken screen, which is a problem in itself since the US GT-i9300 main boards aren’t compatible with the International chassis.

So when I tried to find one I had to search on Ebay UK, and found that with the Euro being .73 cents to the US dollar and the British Pound Sterling being a mere .60, not to mention the shipping, this prices me up to practically what I would pay for the same phone new.

I’m at a loss. I guess it’s blue tooth and ear buds from here on out?… Thanks for your help nonetheless!
