Replaced Disk drive, now it won't read wii games?

I replaced the Wii disc drive on my old RVL 001, because the old drive was starting to die. But, I now I'm getting the following error message: Error Occurred. Press the eject button remove the disc and follow the instructions in console manual.

This sounds like it could be a firmware issue with the replacement drive. You may need to update/re flash the firmware. Did you get this drive specifically as a Wii replacement drive?

Yes, I did. So how do you do that? Wait I have a 4.3 U. I got my last updated before the drive was replaced. I am praying that my options do no include reformatting. I have a few almost impossible to reach game saves on it and I don't have an sd card.
