Getting a new charging port?

How do I get a new charging port for my Surface if Microsoft is refusing to sell me one? They want to me to send in my device for a complete replacement for $200 after the warranty just ran out 35 days ago.

I can only find the charging port for a Microsoft Surface RT. I think I can get one from my supplier. Let me know if you need the part and you want to do the repair. I'll find a way to get the part to you. Here's what the RT charging port looks like.

Would you happen to have a part number or something for the charging port. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need one for a Surface RT but short of a part number am having problems tracking one down.

If it's charging but won't boot or start that's a completely different issue that I had.

I managed to open the RT following the guide here, though parts of that were a real pain, and got the charging port to work and disconnecting and reconnecting it. If you do open it, be very, very careful since the cable to the battery is very short, and if you're not careful you could very easily rip the surface mount from the motherboard.

Hey Matthew,

Did you get your problem fixed? My Surface RT shuts off as soon as I unplug the power cable. I saw a YouTube video of how to fix it by replacing a diode on one of the boards but I would rather buy and install a board that has the correct diode on it.

Thanks

I can't remember all the details since this was four years ago, but at the time Microsoft had a program where we were able to upgrade/replace the RT with a newer model with better hardware specs for a reasonable price.

Surface RT's are old. Why do you think this is related to that diode rather than the battery needing replacing. Frankly, considering the number of apps that will no longer run on Windows RT and the age of the hardware I wouldn't put a lot of money into this, beyond possibly a new battery.

Speaking purely from a money perspective it would probably make more sense to get a Chromebook or one of the new Surface Go's.
