had the same problem with my iPhone 3G.
replaced battery,dock connector...
checked charge/usb chip
(Linear Technology LTC4088-2 Battery charger/USB controller)

check vbus=5v
in my case I had to change the LTC4088 and another chip this position (backside/logic board)

fluid damages are always problematic - there are sometimes tiniy shorted parts on the logicboard and the dock connector.
those parts have to be cleaned carefully with a soft paintbrush and rubbing alcohol - let it dry (really dry) and if everything is clean - reassemble it and try it again

hello my apple iPhone 3G dropped in water dried perfect but I have a problem everything worked, the touch screen does not work I tried to change it again but do not want to know. how can I fix this? thank you very much.

alas new dock connector,batte ry and a good clean up have failed to work.phone functions ok except for taking a charge.thanks for the sound advice though.
