My iPhone got hangging as I was restoring from 5.0 to 6.0

I bought my iPhone from some one in the UK. I am in Nigeria. I wanted to upgrade the firmware from 5.0 to 6.0 it hung up showing iTunes and a connecting cable on the screen. Please how do I restore it back to 5.0 firmware and how do I access the phone apps
