Disk Drive Replacement/PCB Board Swapping

I'm looking to replace a faulty disk drive, (Model: Philips-LiteOn DG-16D4S). The xbox slim is out of waranty and the drive will not read disks of any kind, (open tray error every time).

I want to physically insert my current PCB board which has its security key into a brand new drive of the same model. I understand this requires some soldering. I'm not interested in flashing or any kind of software manipulation.

My two questions are: Will this work and now be able to boot games? And, if I go online with this repaired disk drive is there a chance my console may be banned?

Answer this question I have this problem too

You will be okay going online with it. Since it will be the same key that belongs to your machine. Yes, this would be the way to do it to replace the drive.

I just did the same exact repair today it work. It will work exactly the same electronically and software wise. The soldering is very simple. half a dozen wire to connect individually.

The only smart part in the drive is the controller board. the rest is just motors, sensors, blah blah blah. The console will not detect any security breaches even if these parts are missing
