Device won't hold charge

I've had my iPod classic with me for a few years and it has been a fantastic workhorse with it's 160GB HDD. I dusted it off the other day as it is going to live in VW Golf with the new RCD-510 I purchased to offer more flexibility in my in car entertainment.

I then remembered why it has been collecting dust, there was an issue where the device wasn't holding a charge for more than a few hours and in some case less than 10 minutes. There was also an issue where it wouldn't recognize certain docks even though they worked previously.

I'm trying to decide if this is a logic board or battery issue. Any advice or weighing in appreciated.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Thatch, the holding a charge issues could probably be resolved by changing the battery. Here is the guide for it. The not recognizing certain docks, could be an issues with the dock connector. Look for bend, broken, corroded pins. Clean it with some isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. The dock connector on this model is not really an easy fix since it is soldered to the board. Hope this helps, good luck.
