Upgrading HD and/or adding in SSD

I have a Mac Mini late 2012 model A1347.

It runs OK, but the only bottleneck is the 5200 rpm hard drive.

Could I replace this drive for a faster one (7200 rpm), or fusion drive, for example?

And what replacement kit I have to buy to do this?

I would like to add an 1TB or 2TB HD (7200 rpm), but I could not find one to buy on this site. What kind of HD I have to buy?

As to your inquiry you have a few options here.

Review the IFIXIT guide on replacing your drive and you'll find at the bottom a listing of HD's that you can use that IFIXIT sells - IFIXIT HD Guide.

There are other choices from other sources I would encourage you to do some web surfing on Western Digital's and Seagate's web site to see what options they offer.

The only thing you need to be careful here is the height of the drive must not exceed 9.5mm (2.5" laptop drive). Review the IFIXIT dual HD kit above if you want to add in a SSD. and you can then create a Fusion drive with the two drives or leave them discreet.

Here's how to install new drive: Mac mini Late 2012 Hard Drive Replacement

Just about any 2.5" SATA will work in your machine. I personally like the new hybrid drives for this machine.

I added an SSD to mine using the kit sold here Mac mini Dual Drive Kit turned the two into a fusion drive. It is MUCH faster than it was with just the 5400 rpm drive. The fastest would be to just add a large SSD. You could either add it as a second drive and then leave the other for archived docs and such, or you could replace the drive with an SSD. Read the instructions on this site carefully, this is not a simple process.
