Have seen the video on IFIXIT on how to do this repair.Looks fairly simple. I also read on here in the teardown, that the digitizer and lcd are fused together.What I am wondering is the Glass fused to this,or is it just held on by tape on the sides.

According to this guide, the glass and the LCD are separate and separable by heating it to soften the adhesive

The glass is bonded to the LCD. See step 9 in the guide. The problem that you will have when placing the new glass is that you'll need to properly bond the new glass to the face of the LCD as well as the frame assembly if you want to ensure proper strength and performance. The guide shows applying adhesive only to the edges. I strongly recommend against that! You can order the adhesive film online. If you want to actually bond it "correctly" you'll need to use LOCA (Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive) a vacuum chamber (to remove the bubbles and settle the glass) and a UV light (LOCA is UV activated).
