Why Disk Utility gives error if I try to partition a sshd?

I replaced my old internal hd with a seagate 500 gb sshd sata III 2,5" (model ST500LM000) , but if I try to partition the disk, utility disk give me an input/output error.

How can i resolve it?

Because your machine can not transfer data at SATA II speeds. You need to slow the drive down to SATA I speed, or, find a different drive.

Also it's not clear if you are trying to partition the boot disk... You can't do that. You have to boot from another source then use DU to partition the drive.
