Why is my power adapter overheating?

History

My power adapter overheats after few minutes of operation. Have been using the laptop from 2003 onwards. The same occurs to my Dell Inspiron 1525 that I have been using for 2 years.

What can I do?

I would consider replacing it. You can get them online for around $20. I have one of these laptops, and have been through 3 power supplies. There isn't a way to open it (So it can be put back together) so you can't really try and look inside. Just make sure you buy a type PA-9 adaptor. (Or just "Dell Inspiron 1100 Power Adaptor"

What do you mean by overheating?

Is it compared to before?

When did it start?

I had a look at Dell Support Center and did not find anything related to power supplyfor Dell Inspiron 1100.

Change the main battery of notebook! Overheating in adapter occur because adapter's circuit can't charging well the semi-faulty batterries.

Thanks

hi, the power of your adapter may be lower, you can change a higher one, it should be better. Or you can use another extended battery insteaded. See the 12-Cell Dell inspiron 1100 battery about 4.5-6 hours life at http://www.dell-laptop-batteries-adapter...
