wifi signal weak after screen replacement

I ordered a new wifi cable for my iPad 3 Wi-Fi and installed the cable without any problems now the signal is very weak. I have to be almost right next to the router to get a strong signal. Could the new cable have been bad initially? Tried reseating the cable and resetting the network setting on the ipad, still not luck.
