My optical drive won't completely eject a DVD-R disc.

History

The superdrive in my iMac won't completely eject the disc that is currently in. It will start the ejection process, removing the guard and such but the disc never makes it out of the case so that I can at least grab it to pull it the rest of the way out. I have tried the online suggestion of the business card insertion. But to no avail. I would like any suggestions or do I have to take it in to a shop for the disc removal, for which I don't have the time or the money to do.

Thanks

If you don't have the money the cheapest way is probably to get an usb external DVD drive and leave the jammed one in.

If you have the time then:

iMac Intel 20" EMC 2133 and 2210 Optical Drive Replacement

I had a similar problem with my Superdrive on my PowerBook. I ended up just taking it apart because I got irritated by the noise of my computer trying in vain to cough out the DVD. You could pick up a new Superdrive get the right tools and with a calm room, some patience it is very possible and fun to fix it.

Good Luck!
