how do you hook one mac to another to see if your mac screen is bad

Use a Firewire cable and connect them. Start the one up that you are having issues with holding down the "T" key. Start the other machine up normally. The hard drive icon should appear on your desktop and you can then run Disk Utilities on it.

Can't be done. Connect to an external monitor from the funky Mac. If you see nothing you have Video Card or Logic board problems. If you see your normal desktop the problem is somewhere in the internal display chain. You can check the Diagnostic LEDs on the funky Mac to see if the video processor is communicating with the display... but you'll have to strip the components out of the machines to test them.
