Macbook logic board upgrade

I have the late 2006 macbook. I wanted to know if I can replace the logic board with the early 2009 macbook.

Please let me know. Thank you.

You can, you just have to swap all the connectors from the various components onto the new board. This will work definitely with the Early 2009 MacBook, but the Late 2009 logic board may be different.

Uh, not to be the rain cloud here, but it's not that easy. Here are the problems:

  • the display: late 2007 and later MacBooks use JST connectors, so you would need at least a new inverter cable.
  • lower case: the screw holes are in different spots for the logic board.
  • the optical drive: the early 2009 macbook uses an entirely different optical drive connector
  • battery connector: depending on whether or not your machine is Energy Star branded or not (see part description here, you may need a new battery connector (it's a toss-up on whether or not your machine is ES or not)
  • fan: late 2007 and later MacBooks use JST connectors, so you would need a new fan
  • speakers: JST connectors
  • bluetooth: JST connectors
  • heatsink: JST connectors
  • PRAM: JST connectors

In other words, it is TOTALLY not cost-effective or reasonable to upgrade your machine with the early 2009 logic board.
