Stephen, here is a great video about how to disassemble your Galaxy. Looks like all that is needed are standard tools, best tools for any cellphone repair are from here. The volume button is available right here. Hope this helps, good luck.

iFixit does not sell parts for anything not made by apple except for game consoles. No guides are available yet for the galaxy S4

You need a spudger tool and a Phillips screwdriver.

It is easy to replace a Galaxy S4 volume button.

Remove the battery cover and back housing frame.

The volume button is fixed in back the back housing frame by two clips.

I had exactly same case. I could not use Samsung galaxy 4 anymore

Samsung company made every galaxy 4 volume control switch defective.

many people find out Samsung galaxy 4 defective volume control switch

out of order after use , it became bent right away.

because Samsung company use cheap material less than standard.

Samsung told me 1 year manufacture warranty policy before I bought and then after I bought within 1 year it became defective ,it should cover under warranty

but they sent me email not under warranty.

please watch out Samsung company from Korea and galaxy 4 .

It's not a charging problem... I broke mine today, I knocked my S4 on the side of my locker at work and it bent inwards and jammed.

When my volume buttons became faulty on my Galaxy Xcover 4 it automatically went into Safe mode; (which is apparently a normal response to volume button issues).and remained there. I'd like to know if it will still be waterproof afterdisassembly repair and reassembly..?
