Can you fix a broken page turn button?

The page turn button on the right side of my Kindle is busted - when I press it, nothing happens. The other one works fine. Does anyone know a way to fix the page turn button?

Chosen Solution

One possible cause is a damaged or shorting ribbon cable. While repairing my Kindle's power button, I accidentally damaged the narrow flexible ribbon on the right side. Two of the four copper traces were torn and I discovered two of the page turn buttons don't work anymore. I may try to replace the ribbon and see if it solves the problem.

Yes! I had this same problem and replaced the cable. This is what you do--

-get a replacement cable from ebay or remove it from a "parts only" Kindle

-remove the back of the malfunctioning Kindle, detach the battery, and unscrew the three little screws holding the buttons in place.

-Wriggle the buttons out. It's one unit.

-You can now see the cable snaking through the frame and up into the button well. Remove the broken cable. It's stuck down with adhesive so dental floss can be used to loosen it.

-Pull the broken one out and thread the new one in. Wriggle the buttons back in and replace the screws.

-This is delicate work so you will need tweezers and tiny little screwdrivers. It took me about two hours but my Kindle is now turning pages like a new one! (It's a D01100).

Replace the logic board or if there is one, the button board.

That is not necessary. Most likely it just needs a new button cable.
