Why is gas leaking out air filter?

Put gas in tank for the first time this spring. Gas started to leak out ofair fliter. I pulled spark plug out and found gas in cylinder also.

sounds like it is flooding. Check the float and the needle valve on your carb. what model is your mower and what is the engine model in it?
