does the dock connector of an iPhone 4 work on the 4s?
My iPhone 4 screen is cracked and I'm wanting to know if I can use the dock connector from it in my iPhone 4s that has stopped charging
Is this a good question?

the dock connector is connected on a flex cable and the flex cable is totally different for both the phones
the connector pin layout which connects on logicboard is different on both the cables :-
Dock connectors for both phones listed below :-

I think you can fix just the dock connector by desoldering it from iphone 4 flex cable and fix it on iphone 4S Flex cable but that would be risky as well as time taking. Would not recommend that . . .
The best solution is to buy a new dock connector flex cable for iphone 4S.
Also if you are going ahead and replacing the 4S dock connector cable do take care of the microphone usually while placing the dock connector the microphone cable tends to get cut as it too thin.

As you can see the cables are a different size to suit each model
Use the correct flex for the model and you won't have any problems or need to do unnecessary filing! The part only costs about $3

Yes you can install a charging dock of an iPhone 4 (GSM) on an iPhone 4S. The dock itself is different but will fit. Its recommended though that you use the correct dock. The flex of the iPhone 4 (CDMA) is longer and will not fit the phone. As far as the pin layout itself, it is identical on all three docks. Theres no need to desolder anything, I dont know what the other person is talking about.

I have also replaced a broken 4S dock connector with one from a Iphone 4. I had to file it down a bit (edge of speaker) to fit it.
Charging, sound and the microphone works.

Yep, I did this as well. I filed down the left side of the speaker (only plastic, no actual damage done) and it fits. It works perfectly! I wanted to replace the part because my dock connector was damaged, which I believe was the cause of constant battery drainage. (It thought it was plugged in)
