How do I fix iPhone 4 'Error 2001'?

History

Hello, my iPhone 4 went into recovery mode after the Apple logo kept going on and off but would not boot up fully. I get the plug into iTunes logo and when I go into iTunes to restore it, it gives me 'Error 2001'. I just called Apple and they said it is a hardware issue. It is not under warranty anymore. What part could be causing this?
