WD Green WD20NPVT 2TB 2.5inch internal HD

Can my MacBook Pro 17inch Model-A1297 i7 use the newer internal 2TB 2.5 inch Western Digital Green WD20NPVT hard drive? I'm tired of burning BD-R for backup every two months. Thank you.

Hello Dante, I believe the answer to your question is no. The drive you are asking about is 15mm tall and Everymac states your computer is limited to 9.5mm tall. I am including the link to Everymac's upgrade sheet for your computer. Hope this info is a help to you.

Yes, I installed one of these drives in my 17" MacBook Pro, Uni-Body, 2011 edition. The fit is tight but it it works GREAT. I got this drive soon after it was released.

I have also installed this model of drive into my 17-inch. I bought the drive without knowing there was an issue with it being so tall, and decided to try it. But be forewarned you will have approximately 0.5mm of a gap when trying to screw the bottom of the case back on. The corner screw just barely goes in. I put tape over it in case it pops (don't want to lose it). You can cram it all in and it does work well, but for some this may be unsightly or worse. I needed the data capacity more than I needed the bottom of my Mac to look smooth, so I have kept it.
