earpiece speaker and proximity sensor NOT working.

What parts do I need to buy to fix this problem?

during a call, I am able to hear the other person if I put him on external loud-speaker or if I am wearing a headset. The only problem appears is when I want to use the earpiece speaker. There comes some really weird sounds in the earpiece speaker. The proximity sensor doesn't work neither. it does not turn off the screen during a call when put to the ear or when holding a finger/hand over the sensor.

could somebody tell me, what parts do I need to buy to fix this problem? I also have intention of changing the rear back and the front digitizer + screen glass. with middle frame between the LCD screen and the digitizer screen glass.

thanks!

The speaker connects to the proximity sensor in the 3GS. I would buy those two parts and replace them just to make sure. Now if you have been recently trying to fix it make sure it is connected right into the logic board since it is very tricky to do sometimes.

Speaker:

Sensor:

Be careful when removing the sensor to not damage the metal part holding these two.

Also FYI Digitizer and Front glass are the same. Maybe LCD and digitizer?

I hope this helps!

but isn't there perhaps a product where they sell the screen glass, digitizer, mid frame, proximity sensor, home button, home button flex cable and proximity sensor flex cable pre-installed, so I don't have to put these part together, but only to install the LCD to the whole part and then into the motherboard?

sorry for my english..

Hi,

I would guess you did your repair, so this could be for other users having the same issue:

The earpiece speaker and the proximity sensor are both connected through the same flat cable to the logic board.

If they both stop working at the same time, I would first try to reseat the cables connecting the LCD-assembly to the logic board; especially if the iPhone has been tinkered with before and/or has been dropped.

I have had iPhones 3GS' for repair, that were "visited" by other technicians before me, and for half of those the plastic tab holding in place flat cable #3 had been broken and removed.

Hope this helps!
