The pause and back and next function do not work with my i pod touch on the remote control but the volume control on the same remote works. The pause, next and back functions work on other i pod touch

From your description the problem lies not with your earphones, but with your iPod. . . the port or audio board on that iPod seems to be damaged as it is not responding to what appears to be a good signal (works on a different iPod).
