Not connecting to internet - is ethernet port defective?

A while ago, the computer just started dropping the internet connection every so often and i suspected the set top box (the computer connects through the STB). After resetting the STB the connection would work fine but it would drop out again after about 30 mins. Now it doesn’t connect at all. The mac i am using connects fine so i have narrowed it down to the PC. I have swapped cables and still nothing.

Do other hosts on your network connect fine? And do connections work through another way such as another port of via wireless (if you have)?

Is your connection on the system board? Then probably the connection on the board is bad. If so and you have an open slot you can purchase a internet card at very low cost. That should at the very least eliminate the PC. I am including a URL for a sample product--I'm sure you have similar available where you are. Ralph

Don't you find building fun. Every now and the I go to the "dark side" to build another. I usually use it for a few months and the sell it and go back to my Macs. Ralph
