Okay so this was the first iPod i have taken apart, and when I say that I only took off the screen because I have no tools small enough to remove the screws. I had originally taken off the screen to try and fix the home button but with no tools that obviously didn't work. so I began putting it back together and once i finally got the digitizer reconnected I got nothing at all. It wont turn on, charge from the wall, dock, computer, or car, and the computer and dock don't even know that its there. Now I have to admit I didn't have the cleanest of screen removals, the wifi antenna stayed glued to the top and became separated from the bottom where it is meant to be, I did later separate it from the top, however it is in one piece still with no rips, tears, or cracks. the other thing that went wrong from what I can see is the grounding spring got a little mangled, but it still very much contacts the original point on the upper glass part of the iPod. I also kept the black tape wire very much intact, although I'm not sure what it's for i feel like that's what gives the power to the screen. About the broken home button, I would like to fix it without replacing it even though I do realize that's probably not possible any help on that would be appreciated, note I have tried the rubbing alcohol method that seems to be pretty common.
